The Robina Local

How did Robina get its name?

By The Robina Local ·

Robina is named after the two developers who bought the land. “Robin” comes from Singaporean developer Robin Loh, and the final “a” stands for local developer Arthur Earle. The name was gazetted on 11 May 1985.

Who bought the land?

In 1980, Loh and Earle bought 20 square kilometres of grazing land west of Broadbeach. Loh formed the Robina Land Corporation to develop it, and urban designers Moshe Safdie and Robert Lamb Hart were engaged on the plan.

Why was Robina significant?

Robina was one of Australia’s first master-planned communities, and it was the country’s largest while under construction.

What happened to Kerrydale?

Kerrydale was approved as a separate suburb on 20 February 1989. A 1992 law merged it into Robina, and the boundaries were officially extended on 19 May 1995.
